The Art Is Crap Again 18 June 2006
Mrs Monk is always buying art materials, but is rarely motivated to actually use them.
She is a “Would Be Diarist” but is also a “Would Be Artist”. The house is littered with unopened boxes of water colour, gouache, acrylic and oils. There are at least a dozen tablets of sketch paper, and then she started buying ready made canvases and they sit around getting unused until they eventually get put away somewhere where they are in time forgotten. She has unused shoes and underwear that are similarly forgotten.
This new canvas was of a scale that could not easily be neglected and it sat there in the Living Room for two months before two separate 10 minute bursts of Mrs Monks energy, produced a cartoon of this image and then the splash of yellow and then the black figure. This effort by Mrs Monk may well have exceeded 30 whole minutes of actual painting but the canvas has been there in the Living Room since January. This is not good progress... Shoestring Chronicle
